E-liquids, or as some may call them – e-juices – are the liquids used in electronic cigarettes to vape. They are heated and converted to vapor which is later inhaled by the consumer. Although there are plenty of vape products on shop shelves, one has to manufacture them first. To do that, one needs compounds which are vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol, pure nicotine, e-liquid additives, and flavor concentrates. Learn more about top-quality raw materials in e-liquids manufacturing.
NOTE: this article is part of our Beginner’s Guide to vaping, where – in one place – we have gathered for you all the relevant facts and background information you need to learn about the e-liquid industry and succeed in it as a manufacturer or brand owner.

Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerine: The Base
When e-liquid manufacturers start working on their products, they start with bases. These are propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine, or both mixed. Both these substances are carriers of pure nicotine and the rest of the raw materials used in e-liquids manufacturing. They are also responsible for different features present in the final product.
Propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) are both approved by the FDA for e-liquid manufacturing. Moreover, they are common and safe for use in food and cosmetics.
PG is a liquid with no color and odor, and almost no taste. It serves as a humectant or solvent, and as a preservative. Furthermore, vegetable glycerin is derived from plants, and similarly – has a liquid form with no color or odor. It works as a sweetener, moisturizer, and thickening agent.

Nicotine content in e liquids
The nicotine content is an important component in vape juice for many vapers. It’s essential because vaping products often work a smoking cessation tool. Although very common, there are plenty of e-liquids based on nicotine salts, or even nicotine-free.

Flavor concentrate: what brings the taste to e-liquids
E liquid manufacturing process includes adding some flavorings. They may bring various tastes or smells to the final product. E-liquid flavors may bring food tastes, and help create e-liquids that taste like tobacco leaves, or whatever the customers wish.
Flavorings are added to e-liquids to give them a specific taste or smell. These flavorings can be natural or artificial and can be derived from a variety of sources such as fruits, spices, and even chocolate. Nicotine is also added to some e-liquids to provide the same sensation that traditional cigarettes do.

E-liquid Additives
Due to the fact the e-liquid industry is rapidly evolving, companies often try to create innovative products. For that, they use additives to produce the final, mixed, liquid blend that brings unusual experiences such as a cooling effect or “fizzy” effect on the tongue.

Raw Materials in E-Liquids Manufacturing: Quality and Safety
When one decides to manufacture e-liquids, they should ensure the highest quality ingredients – liquid nicotine, flavours, and other components of the final product. The same goes for e-liquid packaging and containers. Moreover, a part of quality control is conducting a composition analysis of e-liquids, to ensure they are free of harmful substances.
