e-liquids in vape cartridges

E-liquid, or e-juice, is a general term, referring to a vape liquid used in vaping devices. However, it may also refer to a group of different vape products. Frankly, any e-liquid can be used in a vape cartridge. No matter if it’s nicotine-free e-liquid, freebase nicotine e-liquid, or e-liquid based on nicotine salts. However, due to the possibility of misunderstanding related to the wide meaning of “e-liquid”, let’s define what specifically may hide under that word, and what differentiates various types of e-juices. Let’s check what are the most popular e-liquids in vape cartridges.

Bases – propylene glycol and/or vegetable glycerin

Firstly, let’s state, that the very basis of each e-liquid product is the base – propylene glycol (PG) or a viscous, odorless liquid vegetable glycerin (VG). They serve as carriers of every other compound – freebase nicotine, nicotine salts, e-liquid flavoring, or e-liquid additives.

PG e-liquids

When one vapes PG-based vape juice there are two characteristics features:

  • a stronger throat hit, compared to VG e-liquid
  • e-liquid flavors are less impacted

VG based juices

Contrary to PG-based vape liquid, e-liquids can be based on VG alone. In this case:

  • vapor production is much more efficient
  • one can bring thick clouds

PG/VG different ratios

One can mix both substances, and there are different PG VG ratios, that bring different features. The more PG there is in the base, the more enhanced glycol’s features are, and conversely.

Additionally, keep in mind, that there is no best e-liquid ratio. The choice of vape juice ratios is solely up to the client and their preferences. If you want to check what base will work best for you, we’ve created a special tool for that. Try it now: Find Your Perfect E-Liquid Base!

Vaping PG/VG: nicotine-free vape juice

Additionally, when one wants to vape liquids without freebase nicotine or nicotine salt, one can try vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, or both at once, optionally mixed with an e-liquid flavor.

PG VG also works with the addition of, i. e., fruity flavors and zero nicotine strength. Then such a mixture can be named nicotine-free e liquids, used in an electronic cigarette to create vapor.

Although it’s possible to vape PG/VG alone, modern-day e-liquids are much more complex, so let’s check what they exactly are.

Freebase nicotine e-liquid: what is it?

As mentioned earlier, e-liquids refer to vape juice, used in vape devices. Usually, e-liquids contain pure nicotine or nicotine salts. Vaping such type delivers nicotine to one’s organism, and given the current market, one may find vape juices with different nicotine strengths, or even a nicotine-free e-liquid.

E-liquids are created with the aforementioned base, nicotine, flavorings, and additives. They are used to fill a vape device and help people who try to quit smoking.

Depending on nicotine strength, e-liquids bring a throat hit and nicotine satisfaction, which helps reduce nicotine cravings.

Freebase nicotine e-liquids are the very basis of the vape industry and are used with the most vape devices.

E-liquids in vape cartridges: shortfills, longfills, and nic shots

When speaking e-liquids, it’s impossible not to mention shortfills, longfills, and nicshots. They are compounds, used to create e-liquids.

Shortfill, also called a premix, is, most commonly, a 50 ml nicotine-free e-liquid in a 60 ml bottle. It is destined to mix with nicshots – a 10 ml nicotine liquid, that shouldn’t be vaped alone.

Moreover, there are also longfills. A longfill is, most commonly, a 60 ml bottle filled with 20 ml e-liquid to be mixed nicshots.

Contrary to shortfills, longfills allow mixing with more nicshots, allowing acquiring higher nicotine strength, bringing a stronger throat hit. Additionally, shortfills and longfills, can be vaped alone.

Nicotine salts e-liquids in vape cartridges

Nicotine salt-based e-liquids are the ones used in vape cartridges. They have a higher bioavailability, due to which they provide faster nicotine absorption.

Moreover, due to nicotine salts being less aversive upon inhalation, one can vape more nicotine than, and vaping a nic salt e-liquid resembles a traditional cigarette more than vaping a freebase nicotine e-liquid.

Furthermore, vape liquids based on nicsalts bring not as intense a throat hit, as the one provided by electronic cigarettes filled with pure nicotine e-liquid.
