E-cigarettes and vaping trends for the e-liquid market in 2021. The new year has already started and a lot is going to change. This is going to affect how we need to think about the e-liquid industry for 2021 and beyond.
Last year, the retail part of the e-liquid industry – vape shops – has faced (and still does) a lot of limitations due to social distancing and domestic laws introduced due to pandemics. But although turbulent, 2020 turned out to be quite kind for the vape industry in terms of sales. The popularity of alternative nicotine delivery methods has grown in the past year. Probably both producers and retailers of e-liquid and vaping products wonder what are the trends and predictions for 2021. Let’s have a closer look at them in this article.
Most popular nicotine salts for e-liquids
Nicotine salts play a significant role in both the previous 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Undoubtedly, the growing popularity of nicotine salts is one of the strongest vaping trends this year. The reason behind this is their unique chemical structure. Users of e-liquids with nicotine salts experience a stronger nicotine kick comparable to the one after smoking an ordinary cigarette. For this reason, nicotine salts are an indispensable alternative for ex-smokers or smokers who wants to quit.
Most vapers value the quality of NicBase nicotine bases and there is a reason for that. A simple nicotine base is much more than 3 ingredients mixed in a certain ratio. What is the thing to look out for when making a nicotine base? A simple checklist we made:
Get pharmaceutical grade VG and PG.
Nicotine bases are usually made of three main ingredients – pure nicotine, Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin. Although the quality of pure nicotine is very important, do not overlook the other two – they make up most of the final product. PG and VG we use at Chemnovatic are only of pharmaceutical-grade with the highest purity available on the market.
Test your ingredients.
What is very important in the vaping industry in the scope of PG and VG is that they differ in taste and smell depending on the manufacturer. Chemnovatic has tested most of PG and VG brands available on the European market and has chosen ingredients best fitted to vaping products. Some PG/VG also change the colour to light red when mixing with nicotine, even if they are pharmaceutical grade. Experience of Chemnovatic in the vaping industry is also the extra benefit compared to standard laboratories or chemical ingredients resellers.
Keep your production environment clean.
Even highest purity ingredients are no good without a clean production environment. Make sure you are using the right equipment, employees use required protective gear and perform quality checks for every batch. Otherwise, the final product could be contaminated and include undesirable ingredients and pollutants.
Make sure your packaging is clean.
The packaging and closure are very important. Assure “clean supply chain” of the bottles or clean them at the production room before filling. You don’t want any residue getting to your bases from dirty packaging.
It is very easy to create a low-quality product with high-quality ingredients when you have no experience in handling nicotine. Very often you are unknowingly damaging the quality by exposing the ingredients or final product to oxygen. It causes nicotine to deteriorate quicker and may make your product go off sooner.
To sum up – good nicotine bases are not “only” pharmaceutical grade and accepted by the vaping industry. We manufacture our products with the highest standards of quality and cleanliness that are confirmed by the certification the company provides.
As a response to requests from many customers we have decided to introduce 1.5 mg/ml nicotine bases to our standard offer. NicBase 1.5 mg bases are available in typical PG/VG ratios and bottle sizes (other ratios and packaging volumes available on request). Nicotine shots together with other vaping products are subject to TPD (Tobacco Products Directive). Each manufacturer of nicotine shots and e-liquids is obliged to corry out the laboratory tests of own products and to notify its products in every Member States authorities they are intended to be sold. Vaping products (including nicotine shots) also need to be packed in TPD-compliant packaging. Moreover, the TPD Directive does not allow the promotion of e-cigarette products in mass media such as television, radio or the press. If you would like to know more about the TPD requirements when it comes to nicotine shots, read the article below.
What is TPD?
The TPD Directive is an EU tobacco regulation that came into effect in all Member States on May 20, 2016. The purpose of the directive is to standardize and unify the legislation all e-cigarette and vaping products all across the European Union. TPD aims to establish a regulatory environment for e-cigs and e-liquids to make sure they meet safety and marketing standards and to eliminate illicit trading. Therefore to provide vapers with the greatest possible level of safety and transparency of vaping products. The TPD directive has introduced a set of rules for vaping products, which among others are:
Product-specific requirements (eg. capacity not greater than 10ml, max nicotine concentration 20mg/ml)
Obligation to TPD notify products in the Member States
Standards for packaging and labeling (warning signs and pictograms)
Ban on online sales and mass media advertising to end-users
TPD and Nicotine Shots
Nicotine shots are nothing more than nicotine bases used in the production of e-liquids, but in a capacity not exceeding 10 ml. They are used by adding one or two shots with a high concentration of nicotine to the premix. This solution was created for the needs of vapers who want to enjoy the taste of their favorite e-liquid longer. Since the introduction of the TPD directive in Europe, it has become forbidden to sell e-liquids with a capacity greater than 10ml.
Nicotine shots as products containing pure nicotine also need to comply with the TPD regulations. Just like vape-ready e-liquids, they follow the same procedures and obligations. For example:
TPD registration obligation
The maximum content of nicotine not exceeding 20mg/ml
Before the introduction of the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) many nicotine base manufacturers were looking for a solution to oncoming nicotine products regulations. Two main concerns were:
1. Online sales ban in many countries for all products containing nicotine.
2. The limit put on nicotine strength (no more than 20mg/ml) and volume of nicotine liquids (not more than 10ml).
Manufacturers are still trying to cope with TPD regulations in many ways. Nicotine boosters or nicotine shots being one of them. Moreover, Chemnovatic has implemented that idea into a reality. We offer our customers a service of white label manufacturing of nicotine shots. We will take care of the manufacturing, bottling, labeling, and designing process from the bottom to the top. and you will be able to focus only on selling and marketing your own nicotine shots line.
